Beauty, Cigarettes, Tattoos, & Grunge

Adorable Frances with mother Courtney
Frances Bean Cobain just turned 19 years old.  No, I'm serious.  Frances could have been a Paris Hilton or a Kim Kardashian by now, but chose to lead a "normal" life.  Well, she's only 19, so I guess that could change.  But considering she has been famous her whole life, if she were fame hungry, she could have taken advantage of that a long time ago.  According to her mother, Courtney Love, Frances was supposedly offered the lead roles in both Twilight and in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland.  Is this true?!  I have no idea.  But those are two offers that would be hard to turn down.

Frances hasn't been in the media too much throughout her life thus far.  She has done a handful of magazine interviews and photo shoots, had a Twitter tiff with Ali Lohan, and has indirectly been in the news, mainly because of Courtney Love's wild antics.  In 2009, Frances' paternal grandmother and aunt became her temporary co-guardians, and Courtney was issued a temporary restraining order.  I believe that Frances and Courtney have been estranged ever since, but I'm not too sure about that.

I don't know too much about Frances and what her aspirations are, but I will make the assumption that she likes art, music, and fashion.  In 2010 she had an art show, featuring various notebook drawings, at La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles, CA.  Also in 2010, Frances was one of 20 musicians whose voices were mixed together for the song, "My Space" by band Evelyn Evelyn.  As for fashion, she seems to know what she’s doing in that department.  Fashion, like beauty, is definitely subjective; everyone has their own tastes and opinions.  Frances has definitely gone through different style phases, and there are pictures to prove it.   How fun.  I, on the other hand, live in the very real world, where I can’t even afford to get my hair done.  It’s been almost a year since I’ve been to a salon.  That’s a true story.  It’s ok, I can live vicariously through people who can afford to change their look every five minutes, while I continue to use boxed hair dye.

August 2011 was a big month for Frances.  Or at least the Internet made it seem that way.  Not only did she have a birthday but she also posed for two artistic photo shoots, each being drastically different.  Photographer Rocky Schenck took a series of retro glamour-style shots of Frances, while photographer Hedi Slimane took photos of Frances showing her raw, grungy side.  Each series of photos feature Frances' blunt beauty while capturing that mysterious quality she has about her, which only adds to her intrigue.

Who knows what Frances will be doing in the future.  Acting, singing, drawing, whoring, we just don’t know.  But in all seriousness, whatever direction Frances does decide to go in, I hope it’s a positive one.
